Dead Air, the movie

So, y’know, the other night I decide to Netflix the movie, because I’m a fan of the whole zombie thing and this was a zombie movie. Put two and two together and you get a happy zombie fan.

The movie begins off, with Burnhardt and his radio show. Late night shock like jock, in the vein of Adam Carolla or whomever. I keep thinking this guy’s got a comb over for some reason.

Terrorist bad guys set off gas attack, instant zombie madness. Fast zombies in this one, not your Romero slow pasty looking zombies. This is Dawn of the Dead remake style of zombies. Nothing new, nothing really graphic, just a few dead guys and gals running amok and killing the still living. Stand out moment was the bloody back gal with the long slow boob shot as she tore into the security guard.

The radio crew holds up in the radio station, they witness as the world dissolves into madness, murder, bloody bloodness, and a lot of wailing on the badass shock jock’s part about his wife and kid. Which finally leads to his buddy pal into volunteering to go for a midnight ride through zombie infested downtown… which I totally agree was a bad move on his part.

Basically, the shock jock is sort of responsible for a lot of people dying. His buddy who took off on the motorcycle, zombified. The fact that he pushed his friend to go to his home, zombified his wife. The gal who was hiding in the office downstairs, allowed to die because of our bro’s incompetence.

The only on who didn’t get infected or dead was the red headed show producer. She managed not only to walk away, but also got whisked away via helicopter. Good for her.

The idea that the virus has got a lifespan of about seven hours was pretty interesting. Makes the terrorists not complete psychos bent on destroying the world, just major assholes who want a lot of innocent people dead. Plus it sorta makes it a non world killing even, just a small scale bio attack event.

But y’know, people were still being killed and zombified for seven hours, that’ll mean the last infected would be turning zombie again pretty soon, which means the cycle could start all over again.   Our bro, Burnhardt, and wife would be, in a few hours, feasting on the flesh of their little girl and whatever neighbors managed to survive.

Overall an alright movie. Most of the dialogue was okay, the acting was a bit stiff in some parts, the blood drenched horror that I expect in all zombie movies was tame, and the special effects were okayish.

Not the best zombie movie in the world, but one you can blow a couple hours on an promptly forget.
